Christmas Eve

Christmas is only a few hours away as I write this. How time does fly!

Yesterday we went to visit Northwest, which we agreed was even more foreign after two years away. We knew a lot fewer of the faces in the crowd, though Heather was greeting every other person in her usual fashion. I love how happy everyone is to see us when we're there, how we always have to hassle Mr. T about our missing papers and the HILL trip, how he always contends that we were one of the best classes. we didn't make in there in time to crash hill class for the day, alas (the little bastards are going to england this year, dammit!), but we saw fitz (who feigned a heart attack when i appeared in his room), tumbly and mr avery, mrs juda, whose classes heather has been observing and who told us that her current AP class was very boring and nothing like ours lol. She was giving heather advice on how to be an effective teacher, ie establish a dictatorship, rule by fear of force and that gimlet-eyed stare, and rae suggested paying people to spread rumors of her fierceness throughout the halls. oh yes, and it must be mentioned that as we walked past the gym, i looked in and caught a glimpse of who else but STEVE himself, playing basketball just like in the old days. Who would have thought that antisocial young man would return to northwest of his own accord? we had to resist the urge to go by like five more times, naturally. sigh. he's still...steve, meve, small duck, grumpy duck, and all those other things we called him. i wonder if luke was there too...

so we left feeling like celebrities, and of course wound up over at center squeeze cafe for some elitist vegetarian food, and then we dropped rae at aj's and spent the rest of the day into the evening just sitting in sara's living room talking while the wind howled and the rain poured. (ok, at one point or another i was furtively trying to read "The other boleyn girl", which sara's mom had, but they called me antisocial and sara took it away and put me in "time-out". eventually though heather took a short nap and sara was reading some sex book, so i got to peruse it for a while).

So good, that's all i can say. being with them is always exactly what i need. there's always something amusing/shady going down, like heather swerving into the path of a bus as we left school, and delicious treats to be consumed, like the marvelous Queso de Hoja, or as i simply call it, sara's puerto rican cheese. Damn that stuff is goood.

We're going to be apart for new year's this year, for the first time since freshman year. Remember that year, when we shadily went to Dan's house, back when rae and dan were still....whatever the hell they were, "kindred spirits" i suppose? then we spent the next two at sara's house, the old house, and then senior year was at annie's (the only year i actually had my own boyfriend to kiss at midnight, ah greg), and last year was of course the debauchery of the hotel suite. this year rae will be with aj, heather and sara will be in nyc with friends and family, respectively, and i'll be in new haven with sean, meredith, and hopefully amanda. i'm sure it'll be fun, but of course not the same--as sara said tonight, "we're growing up!" true, but as we've already learned from college, that doesn't always have to mean growing apart. we all still fit together like puzzle pieces, even after all this time.

Tonight is Christmas Eve, and in true dimarzo family tradition, we were impatient and opened our stockings and a couple of gifts. my mom made me a pillow out of the extra chinese silk i had from making my photo board!! it's beautiful, bright green, i love it. now i just have to keep it safe from sapphire for a month or so...jen gave me some scrapbooking paper, which was nice of her, and my mom put some gift certificates for movies and koko's in my stocking. we filled hers with candy lol, which is totally unhealthy and her doctor has scolded her so many times...oops! i bought her a calendar full of pictures of shelties just like sheena (except you know, not dying). Tomorrow we'll open the rest, but just like last year, i'm not going crazy with excitement over the prospect of gifts. i would say that hmm, maybe it's just because i'm older, but jen acts like a five year old with presents still. or maybe that's just because it's jen...

Anyway, that's enough of an update for Xmas eve. the house is filled with the smell of my mom baking, although thanks to jen throwing out the buttermilk, no banana bread for me tonight. There really aren't any true catholics in this house, but maybe my mom still counts as christian, so happy birthday, jesus. you the man.
