Of Mice and Meese

a summary of recent events, a la heather:

thursday: left home after uneventful lunch with the maternal unit to go to wendy's. after a mercifully short trip to the DMV, wendy emerged the proud owner of a purple Dodge Shadow, which is freakishly clean and has really low mileage, thanks to Tommy's grandma. from there we proceeded to the mall, where i purchased the first clothes from hot topic that i had bought in a long, long time. i am now the proud owner of a perfect circle tank top!! and so is sara, since they were on sale! lol. after some chinese food (and a rather interesting car ride with wendy at the wheel, the details of which i am not permitted to go into her), wendy and i were at a loss as to how to spend the remainder of the evening--so we called tommy. naturally. we ended up watching a few episodes of family guy with him and brian, and then left because wendy had to get up very early for work.

friday: after lunch with wendy, i bid her farewell and journeyed on to fairfield, where i picked up meredith and surveyed what little progress has been made on the grand concourse or whatever the hell they're trying to make. we visited the beach (water very cold) and had dinner before she took a train back to her sister's. then, having three and a half hours before i could briefly see tommy (he was busy with vacation bible school *opinion withheld*), i opted to go back to the trumbull mall, where i literally sat from six-thirty till nine pm in a tiny waldenbooks reading dan brown's "deception point". at 340 pages, i kinda had to hurry a bit toward the end in order to finish by nine, but it was altogether a pretty good read. anyway, at this point i went outside to my car only to discover that, silly me, i had locked my keys inside.

you can imagine how thrilled i was at this. i went back inside to security, who sent a guy who looked at my car and said "umm....dunno if i can open this. hold on , ill be right back". twenty minutes later, he's not back, i'm standing in an increasingly deserted parking lot feeling really really stupid, and my boss is giving me a lecture via cellphone on how impractical i am for not having a spare key on me. yeah, thanks, izzy, but when i'm worrying about possibly being robbed or molested in this sketchy parking lot, that's not exactly what i want to hear. i talked to tommy and asked him to come get me. immediately after i hang out, the security guys arrive--all FIVE of them. they inform me that they're not technically allowed to work on cars with automatic locks, and further aren't allowed to open cars who aren't registered to the person asking for help, but they were ok helping me because i was nice. it probably didn't hurt that one of them called me cute to his partner as he was getting out of the truck. one of them was quite attractive, his name was adam...he told me that i was much too good of a talker, that i must be used to talking my way out of things, and when i protested that i'd never been pulled over he sort of winked and said "that's not all i was talking about". er, i still don't quite get that, but he was being quite friendly until tommy showed up hahaha. stupid boyfriend, scaring away the flirty security guards. jeez. tommy thought the whole scene was hysterical, arriving there to see five uniformed security guards climbing on the tahoe, yelling at each other, with the alarm wailing in the background and the stupid lights on their truck flashing enough to give anyone a seizure. he went to his car to see if he had a jacket to give me, then realized, to his horror, that one of his precious speakers was loose! only MY boyfriend would worry about the stupid car speaker while his girlfriend is freezing and watching a bunch of men maul her car door with a tire iron covered in newspaper and a clotheshanger! to his credit, he realized his error quickly and later joked that it was god's form of retribution for his having initially laughed at the tahoe's pain.

anyway, the guys finally got the car open. there was a moment of panic when i couldnt find the goddamned keys, which were on the backseat. one note: it took FIVE trumbull guards half an hour to get my car open, whereas it took TWO westfarms guards about fifteen minutes to get it open a year or so ago. HMMMM. says something about fairfield county, eh?

after all this crap i did not want to drive home, so i gave my boss a BS story about my car being inaccessible till the next morning and stayed at tommy's. unfortunately for me, his mom decided to take this opportunity to express her concern over tommy sleeping "behind closed doors" with me, even though he (supposedly) sleeps on the air mattress on the floor. this situation might not have been helped by the fact that his mom picked up my cell phone when my 11PM alarm went off and saw the bright "TAKE PILL" display....no word on whether she understood which pill that meant. so i spent the night alone in a queen-sized bed and tommy slept on the floor in the living room. yipee skippy. the only plus to this was waking up to tommy bringing me breakfast in bed! that was awesome, even if i wasn't really hungry...

but i'm home now, alas. i saw my sister tonight in the bathroom for the first time since....wednesday morning (and i don't look at her i nthe morning anyway, i roll blearily into the car, drive, turn around, drive back, and flop back onto my bed) and screamed (literally) because she was ORANGE. for the first time in our collective family memory, one of us has a tan, or something approaching it, because she's really dark but looks orange tinted. it's really weird, i dont think she looks very good like that. she spends every day outside for work, that's how she came by it....if that's what i would look like if i ever achieved a tan, then no wonder my body resists changing skin color! jesus! i don't want to look like a tangerine! tommy looks really hot tan, it makes his muscles look even better, but jen...no.

oh, and i need new good books to read. i've read everything dan brown has written, i can't find that other matt reilly book "contest" ANYWHERE, i've reread all my michael crichton and tom clancy books several times already....i need FRESH BLOOD, people! suggestions?
