back from my slightly abbreviated vacation to the cape, which was fun even in its short duration. i don't even want to think about how much money i've spent recently. the tahoe is a very expensive car even when you've got people splitting the gas bill with you. wendy wanted me to take a train to grand central to meet her and tommy tomorrow for the parade but there's just no way, plus i need some R&R. i went out and got some books from the library today, old favorites: "the duchess of milan" "ladylord" and "artemis fowl: the eternity code" *cough*. ok the last one is not exactly a classic book, but i read it during an afternoon spent sitting in borders because i didnt feel like paying 22 bucks for a tiny kids book, even if it was the thrilling conclusion to a trilogy. yes, i like artemis fowl, even if it's nowhere near harry potter quality. oh and i rented "blazing saddles" and "emma" and stocked up on food i'll actually eat. and now i'm snowed in and my mom has my car. i doped up all the cats with catnip and the dog is passed out on the kitchen floor.
this feels like the old days, it feels like high school--nighttime, empty house, me tidying the kitchen, talking to the pets or turning the radio up really loud just to hear some noise. watching the snow come down, i almost feel like i should be listening for school closings. the only clue that this is not what it was is my suitcase standing in the middle of my room. the shot glasses on my table are a clue too, actually--shot glasses that my mom bought for me at a thrift store without asking any questions when i told her a friend of wendy's wanted them. tomorrow is st. patty's day but i have no plans to celebrate my heritage. i wish it were closer to the weekend to so i could be looking forward to going to wendy's.
time to veg some more!
